The island, “Sunspire Isle”, is roughly 3000 km long and 2500 km wide. The southernmost tip crosses the equator, the northernmost part is between 20 and 25° northern latitude.
The centre of the island is dominated by a mountain range with peaks of up to 5.000m, the Skyreach Mountains (Dwarven “Kazrak-Tharum”, The Iron Crown, Elven “Vael’Drisann”, The Song of the Winds, Halfling “Stone Wave Peaks”). The west coast is separated from the rest of the island by a smaller mountain range, the “The Wandering Heights” or Khazrak-Thul Ridge in Dwarven, “The Unyielding Stones”. This mountain range includes the “Sky Peak”, the highest mountain of the Sunspire Isle . Legend has it that Stone Giants lived in that area. This is still reflected in the dwarven name of the mountain, Dum-Tharrak, “Peak of the Stone Lords” (Elven Ilthae’dris, “The Shrouded Crown”, Halfling “High Home”). Today, it is the home of a clan of goliaths, The Keepers of the Old Stone.
On the island there are large populations of four species.
The humans live mainly on the west coast that is separated by a mountain range from the rest of the island. The largest city of the island is in the West. They rely a lot on craftsmanship and trading with nearby populations of sea dwelling species.
The halflings live mainly in the lowlands and coastal areas in the central part of the island. They live in towns and smaller communities and specialize in farming, fishing and the processing of natural products.
Elves live mainly in the forests of the eastern part of the island. There is also a community of Dark Elves on the eastern slopes of the central mountain range, and in underground tunnels and caves.
Dwarves live mainly in the hills and mountains in the central part of the island. They are talented craftsmen and miners.
Water is a scarce resource on the island, with the exception of the area east of the central mountain range. The rainwater is managed carefully with large cisterns in all settlements. The local clergy has developed a ritual to clean large amounts of seawater in case there is a shortage. Some people say that the island could not support its population without this ritual.
Metal objects are in high demand on the island. Demand is especially high with the sea dwelling species. They don’t seem to have a way for metal processing in or under water.
Wood is another precious resource for shipbuilding and firewood. While the eastern part of the island is densely forested, this resource could be depleted rapidly if not managed carefully.
There are several small islands around Sunspire Isle, with a group of six islands with steep cliffs off the west coast, called “The Shattered Teeth” and another group of six islands off the southwestern coast, “The Jade Sprays”. “The Ocean’s Gate” off the northwest coast is noteworthy for being medium sized, roughly 200 km long and wide. It has several settlements of sea dwelling species (tritons, sea elves, tortles) on the coastal areas. These settlements serve as trading posts to exchange goods between sea dwellers and island dwellers. Trade is very active, with sea dwellers looking for metal based products and any types of craftsmanship, the islanders looking for fish, seafood, pearls, corals and other products of the sea.
The inland is covered by forest with no major settlements.
The halflings, the elves and specifically the humans are skilled sailors, exploring not only the coastal areas but also the open sea. Nevertheless, no other major land masses have been discovered by the inhabitants of Sunspire Isle.
